Encaustics

Encaustics is the ancient practice of using beeswax as a medium. Each piece is created by building up thin layers of hot wax colored with oil paint or pigment. It dries/hardens instantly and then is merged, tempered, manipulated with the other layers by applying heat with a hot blower or torch or iron. Sometimes charcoal power, gausze, fibers, or natural found-objects are embedded in the layers of wax.
Wax melts at 180 degrees Fahrenheit so the medium is stable as long as it is not hung in direct sunlight, or near a direct heat source. Encaustics can provide generations of inspiration in your art collection.
